Based on real facts of life of Ramon Sampedro, a sailor who after an accident in his youth is left tetraplegic. Ramon (brillantly played by Javier Bardem) remains tied to a bed during near 30 years and wishes to "die with dignity" or as he says:"I consider life to be a right, not an obligation". Ramon "managed to die" but away from his home and illegally... The SEA INSIDE /MAR ADENTRO is a film about a very difficult topic of death by euthanasia. Nevertheless, it is a film that celebrates life.
IL POSTINO is loosely based on the novel "El cartero de Neruda" by Antonio Skármeta from Chile [a grandson of a family who immigrated there from Dalmatia:-)]. The film is full of lyrical tenderness and quietness and a magnificent Mediterranean scenery... A simple man Mario(Massimo Troisi) in his search for love discovers poetry and finds his teacher in Pablo Neruda. U jednoj od svojih najboljih parodija na popularne filmove - Spaceballs (1987), parodiji na Zvjezdane ratove(Star Wars), americki komicar Mel Brooks je za omiljeni SF motiv gigantskog destruktivnog oruzja upotrijebio zenu s usisivacem. Svemirska stanica "zlog imperija" u kljucnom se trenutku pretvara u robota-zenu (Mega-maid) koja "usisava" zrak s napadnutog planeta. U procesu transformacije i konacnog pada dijelova eksplodiranog robota na nepoznatu plazu, poigrava se i sa slikom statue Slobode na ulazu u New York, odnosno sa zavrsnim prizorima kultnog filma Planet majmuna (1968). U mnogobrojnim proslim i sadasnjim kulturama diljem svijeta, muski oblik skrivanja identiteta bilo je nosenje maske, ali i pravog vela, odnosno tkanine koja pokriva sve osim ociju. Mozda je privlacnost vela ono sto je od Rudolpha Valentina napravilo neprevladanu fantazmu. Rijec je o njegovoj ulozi u "The Son of The Sheik" (1926). U scenama koje danas mogu izgledati komicno, oteta djevojka pada u nesvjest od strasti dok Valentino znalacki skida ili ponovno stavlja dio svog arapskog turbana preko usta.
